Baked Apples

Served warm, these Baked Apples are not only a classic treat but also a reminder of the coziness of home. Whether enjoyed on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, they are a delicious indulgence

Ingredients:

  • 4 large, firm baking apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans)
  • 1/4 cup currants or raisins
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and core the apples, leaving the bottom intact. Use a knife or apple corer to remove the seeds and create a well in the center.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, chopped nuts, currants or raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and vanilla extract.
  4. Stuff each apple with this mixture and place them in a baking dish.
  5. In a small saucepan, heat the water and butter until the butter is melted. Pour this mixture over the apples.
  6. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 20-30 minutes or until the apples are tender and the tops are lightly browned.
  8. Serve the baked apples warm, spooning the syrup from the bottom of the pan over the top.
